Through KSE, Inc., Dr. Kittrell is an inventor of the CARE Monitor, which received the 1994 R&D 100 Award, for one of the 100 most technologically significant new products of year, and described as "The Oscars of Invention" by the Chicago Tribune. He is also the inventor of the AIR Process, a photocatalytic technology for air pollution control and indoor air quality control, including elimination of microbiological contamination such as anthrax spores. This technology has received the 1997 SBIR of the Year Award for Environment, Energy & Resource Management, for developing an innovative new technology through the SBIR program, resulting in the improvement in everyday life and the betterment of mankind.
Dr. Kittrell has also been recognized by the 1998 U.S. EPA Environmental Innovator Technology Award and by the 1998 R&D 100 Award for process development and new products in air pollution control technology.
